The neighbour gift is small by design. It is an introduction, not a statement: cake, cookies, a modest platter, flowers. In an Israeli building it also does practical work, because the family that just moved in does not yet know which neighbours to ask about the vaad bayit, the makolet or the local gan.
The one gift that is always right in the first week is food they do not have to cook, since the kitchen is the last room anybody unpacks. Send it for a weekday evening or a Friday morning. Kashrut is worth a glance on the store page — you do not know their standards yet, and a new neighbour will not tell you they could not eat it.
