About Upsherin Gifts and Party Platters
An upsherin is a three-year-old's first haircut, and it is run as a small party: family and neighbours come, everyone takes a snip, and the boy is handed sweets and given his first siddur or aleph-beis. It is the moment his own chinuch starts, which is why the gifts tend to be his rather than the family's.
In practice the order is candy platters and cake for the room, plus something for the boy — a toy, a gift box, decorated cookies with his name and the letters on them. Set the delivery date for the morning of, and check the store's kashrut if it is being held in shul rather than at home.
